In 1926, Malone confined his activity entirely to the northeastern United States, competing across three states — Pennsylvania, New York, and Massachusetts — and four cities. Buffalo’s Broadway Auditorium was his most frequent venue, hosting four of his nine bouts and serving as the site of both his most notable victory and his only defeat of the year.

A Map of Malone’s Fight Locations
Jock Malone began his 1926 fight campaign in Erie, Pennsylvania, with a January 8th win over his opponent, Battling Gahee. His next five matches were held in two American states: New York and Massachusetts. The last of those five fights was held on June 7, 1926, in Buffalo, New York. That match had Malone taking on the former World Middleweight Champion, Harry Greb. Greb had lost the division title four months earlier to Tiger Flowers, the first Black man to ever wear the World Middleweight Crown.
Malone lost only one match in 1926, and that loss was to Harry Greb, by unanimous decision. In August, Malone was back in Buffalo where he outpointed his opponent, British middleweight, Ted Moore. Malone closed out his 1926 fight campaign with two more winning matches held in New York City.

Presently, TFM does not have information indicating where prominent boxers like Jock Malone and Harry Greb might have stayed while they were in Buffalo, but the Lafayette Hotel, shown in the postcard to the left, completed its renovation in 1926 and would have put either contender in the heart of downtown Buffalo. The hotel was not exactly in walking distance to the Broadway Auditorium, but it was close enough for a comfortable ride in an private vehicle or taxi.

About TFM and F1-FIGHTS in RINGS (Boxers and Boxing). TFM is committed to telling the history of boxing as an international sport and with the broadest lens possible. We pay particular attention to ways in which boxing was cultivated and positioned in America to advance notions of power, masculinity, virtue, dominance, and opportunity from the outset of the American Empire in 1890, through the 1920s. Through multiple presentations, TFM illustrates how boxing functioned not only as a sport but as a powerful lens through which life was experienced, interpreted, and remembered during the four decades that best reflect THE TRIPLE FIGHT (1890-1929).
